Status update on Slytherin points

We have recently received some emails from concerned Slytherins who, during the first weeks of July, noticed two different drops in the Slytherin house points count amounting to approximately 200,000 points.

We have investigated and learned that this was due to two users requesting their accounts to be deleted.

The process to restore house points was initially manual, so users may have seen a temporary delay between the points of these two users being removed and then being reinstated, which is why a temporary fluctuation in house points would have been seen.

We have investigated the re-application of those house points and can confirm that approximately 200,000 points were reinstated to Slytherin house over two days.

Reinstating the 200,000 house points to Slytherin coincided with a large surge in the number of Pottermore users on the site, and it would have been difficult to clearly see these points being re-added -  the influx of activity and heavy point scoring meant an average increase of over 3,000,000 new points per house within one week.

We have now updated our processes for reinstatement of house points so that it is now automatic and immediate (instead of manual), and members of the community will no longer experience fluctuations in relation to House Cup points.

Temporary issues

Pottermore users are currently experiencing some temporary issues loading the Great Hall and common rooms. This is due to a problem with our hosting partner and we are working with them closely to resolve this. Users might also experience issues with Duelling Club and Potions Class. We’ll bring you updates on this as soon as we have them.
[Updated at 16:09 BST: This issue has now been solved]

Update on the Story Navigator

Further to the post we made on July 3 about the issues associated with the story navigator, this week we have made a technical update to Pottermore.com which should now resolve the issue for the majority of our users, where the story navigator disappeared at certain points of progression throughout Moments.

If you are still experiencing problems with your story navigator please do let us know by contacting us here, providing as much detail as possible to help us replicate your problem and hopefully solve it more quickly for you.

We also hope you will be pleased to learn this week's update included some stability upgrades to Duelling Club.

More to follow soon.

Update on the Story Navigator

Over the past few weeks, some members of the Pottermore community have been experiencing an issue where the Story Navigator disappears at certain points of progression through the Moments.

This particular bug, which seemed to be more difficult to catch than a Demiguise, has been located by our engineers and we are working to fix the issue. We’ll update you here on this Site Updates page on our progress.

We’re also working on other suggestions mentioned by members of the Pottermore community including improvements to games, the ability to delete Owl Notifications once they've been read, and reviewing our customer service process.

Update on the Quidditch World Cup semi-finals

We will bring you the semi-final match reports of the 2014 Quidditch World Cup a little later than planned. This means the new dates are Friday 4 July for USA versus Brazil and Sunday 6 July for Bulgaria versus Japan.

This delay follows some technical issues we’ve been working to resolve.

Keep your fingers crossed for the team you support!

An update relating to Pottermore.com Account Deletions

Dear Pottermore Community,

As many of you have heard by now, some Pottermore.com users have experienced challenges and frustrations relating to account deletions.  Even though this situation has affected a small percentage of our audience, we take your concerns very seriously and we apologise to members of the Pottermore community who have been impacted.

Here are a few key facts to know:
  • We identified a technical bug that was causing a delay in processing user-requested account deletions.  We began our correction process in May 2014, working through a backlog of user accounts that needed to be deleted.
  • In some cases, the delay meant a lag of several months between when users requested for their account to be deleted, and when the accounts were actually deleted.  We have significantly decreased this delay and we are working to eliminate it completely.  We will notify the Pottermore community when the situation is completely resolved.
  • As part of working through this backlog some members of the community may notice a reduction in the number of their Pottermore friends – don't be alarmed – large numbers of people aren't suddenly leaving Pottermore – this is simply as a result of the account deletion backlog described above.
  • We are also in the process of determining if any user accounts were accidentally deleted as has been suggested by some members of our community.  The Pottermore community will be informed as soon as we have more complete information about this.
  • When users choose to leave Pottermore.com we will no longer deduct their hard earned house points from the house that they have left so that the wider Pottermore community is not impacted by account deletions.

Queries about account deletions
Any member of the Pottermore community who has had his or her account deleted and does not recall requesting for an account deletion can alert us by visiting the help section of our website.   Please click on "need more help" in the "Next Steps" section and complete the short form.

Statement about Pottermore.com Account Deletions

Dear Pottermore Community,

We wanted to spotlight some important issues related to account deletions.  First, we’re delighted to announce that we are modifying our policy regarding house points when users delete their accounts. As a one-time measure to our dedicated community, we’ve reinstated house points on accounts that were deleted from 1 August, 2013, through to the present.  This has resulted in the reinstatement of 400,000 points across all houses including a whopping 200,000-plus to Slytherin.  We are working on making this policy change permanent in the coming months.

As many of you have heard by now, some Pottermore.com users have experienced challenges and frustrations relating to account deletions.  Even though this situation has affected a small percentage of our audience, we take your concerns very seriously.

We have identified technical issues and we are actively addressing them now.  In the next several weeks, we will communicate with the Pottermore community through this section of our website and assorted social media channels to inform you about our progress resolving the account challenges.

Thank you for your loyalty and feedback.  We are listening to you and we are committed to creating the best Pottermore.com experience for all visitors.

Sincerely,

The Pottermore Team

I can’t log in to my account

If you're sure that you are entering the correct password and username (see below for more on passwords and usernames) and you're still unable to access Pottermore, it may be that your account wasn’t validated in time.

When you registered for Pottermore, you were sent a Pottermore validation email. In order to validate your email address and complete the registration process, the link in the email needed to be clicked within seven days of receiving it. If you didn't do this, then your account will have lapsed.

I've forgotten my password

Provided you have a validated Pottermore account (see 'I can’t log in to my account' above for more on validating your account), you can reset your password by going to the Pottermore ‘Sign In’ page and clicking ‘Forgotten your password?’ under the password entry box. Next, type in your username and click ‘Email me the link’. You'll then receive an email containing a password reset link.

If you're under 13, you should ask your parent or guardian to check their inbox for the password reset email.

If you don't receive a password reminder email, please check your ‘spam’ or ‘junk mail’ folder as the email may have been placed there by accident.

If you've forgotten your username and have a validated Pottermore account (see 'I can’t log in to my account' above for more on validating your account), go to the Pottermore ‘Sign In’ page and click ‘Forgotten your username?’ under the username entry box. Then type in the email address registered to your account and click ‘Email me my username’. We’ll send your registered username(s) to that email address.

(Please be aware that if there are multiple Pottermore users in your household who are all using the same email address, the reminder email will include their username(s), too.)

To access your account settings you'll first need to log in to Pottermore via the ‘Sign In’ page and click on the 'Account Settings' link in the menu at the very bottom of the page.

I'm not happy with the house I was sorted into. Can I be re-sorted?

The Sorting Hat's decision is final so, unfortunately, we are not able to re-sort users once they have gone through the Sorting process.

We hope that you come to enjoy the house you have been placed in.
