Places – The Library

‘And then, of course, there was the sheer size of the library; tens of thousands of books; thousands of shelves; hundreds of narrow rows.’

- Chapter Twelve, The Mirror of Erised, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

One of Hermione’s favourite places at Hogwarts, the library is a place of refuge and of answers for her, and often Harry and Ron too.

It helped solve the case of the elusive Nicholas Flamel in Harry’s first year at Hogwarts; it held the explanation for the voice Harry was hearing in his second year. It also houses the Restricted Section, an area full of books on the Dark Arts, from which Harry, Ron and Hermione learn how to brew Polyjuice Potion.

Our Pottermore fans have submitted fantastic art of the library, with different interpretations of this store of knowledge. Here are some of our favourites:

We’ve also asked our Pottermore fans what it is that they enjoy about the Hogwarts library and why it’s amongst their favourite places.
